ARIBIRA

TEAM BUILDING

ADVENTURES LEADERSHIP

Successful experiential education requires that we consider access issues for all participants, including a growing number of people with disabilities. With that in mind, Aribira developed the PED for People with Disabilities.

Aribira's experiential program is focused and fostering a high level of self-esteem, socialization, independence, participation in the communities and a better quality of life for people with disabilities and others through outdoor experiential activities.

Participants are encouraged to learn new skills, meet new people, participate in challenging and fun activities and practice decision-making. These programs also aim at enabling people with disabilities to challenge themselves and enjoy new experiences in an environment where safety and nurturing are primary.

Our programs is divided into two major areas:
- Programs for People with Disability
- Programs for Raising Disability Awareness

1. Programs for People with Disability

The disability could take many forms: physical, intellectual, psychiatric, sensory, neurological learning, physical disfigurement and the presence in the body of disease-causing organisms.

As a result people may have one or more of the following impairments: difficulty interpreting information, partial or complete loss of sight or hearing, poor balance, lack of coordination, limitations of stamina, difficulty moving their head, hands and fingers, inability to use the extremities, difficulty bending or kneeling, reliance on mobility aids, extreme size or weight, etc.

These impairments mean that some barriers can be created, but can also be conquered.
Our programs aim at helping people with disabilities to overcome these barriers through challenging and fun activities.

2. Programs for Raising Disability Awareness

This program is geared toward raising disability awareness and adaptation as well as to support social interaction and encourage integration/inclusion.

Participants will have an opportunity to “try on” a physical disability and then work as a group to adapt or modify the activity to include all in a meaningful and safe manner.
