The Serra dos Órgãos
National Park (PNSO) offers great mountain sceneries
as well as amazing hiking trails. It has a total
of 10 peaks with elevations past 2,000
meters, an altitude not common in Brazil.
The national
park has pristine Atlantic Forest vegetation,
with the highest elevations providing incredible
views of Guanabara Bay and the City of Rio while
in lower elevations you have incredible paths
through the rain forest and wildlife.
The flora
varies according to the altitude: coastal rain
forest (up to 1,400m / 4,200ft), mountain rain
forest (1,400m to 1,800m / 4,200ft to 5,400ft),
altitude rain forest (1,800 to 2,000m / 5,400ft
to 6,000ft) and low vegetation (2,000m+ / 6,000ft+).
The most
famous peak is Dedo de Deus, God’s Finger
(rock climbing of this peak is available).
