Aribira’s guides are among the top professional climbing guides in Brazil. They receive ongoing first aid and self-rescue training in order to guarantee your enjoyment with maximum safety.

Kika Bradford

Kika, founder of Aribira, is a native Brazilian with a Masters Degree in Applied Anthropology from the University of Maryland at College Park. Her master’s research focused on ecotourism, adventure tourism, and the development of group identities in adventure/recreational settings.

Kika is also a NOLS (National Outdoors Leadership School) instructor and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder from WMA.

She started hiking and backpacking in 1995 and rock climbing in 1998. In 2001 Kika became a professional climbing guide with Exum Mountain Guides (Jackson, WY), and a skiing instructor at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, WY.

Kika’s experience also includes extensive rock-climbing in Brazil, USA (including Yosemite and the Tetons) and Mexico. She has first ascended several routes and mountains in Brazil. Furthermore, she has hiked and backpacked throughout Brazil, USA, South Africa, Bolivia, Peru, and Chile.

Kika was the President of AGUIPERJ (The Local Guides Association) for two years and now work as a volunteer in the Technical and Environmental Departments of the State Climbing Federation (FEMERJ).
Kika is our Lead Guide and facilitator, responsible for coordinating the logistics of all trips and experiential programs. She is also responsible for training our staff.

Kika is fluent in Portuguese, English, Spanish, ASL (American Sign Language), and LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language).

Alexandre Bradford

Xande (Alex) joined Aribira as a partner in 2005 while still residing in New York. Xande started on the outdoors in 1995 in New Mexico, USA, and during his 12-year residency in the United States he participated in several adventure activities in New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, New York, California and Maine. His passion for the outdoors and adventure took him to New Zealand and Australia in 2004, the former the capital of adventure tourism. Xande got his PADI open water diving certificate while in Australia and is an outdoors and sports enthusiast.

Xande is responsible for the administrative area, client relations and project analysis of Aribira, bringing his expertise of public policy and urban planning consulting in the USA to Aribira.

Xande has a bachelors degree in Geography from the University of New México and a masters degree in Urban Planning and Public Policy from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Xande speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish fluently.


Guilherme Sabino

Guilherme has always been a big fan of the outdoors. He started to climb in 2002 and two years later gave up his business administration carreer for professional guiding. He loves to share his local knowledge with people from all over the world. Guilherme speaks English and Spanish. Presently, Guilherme is running the Climbing and Hiking programs in Aribira.

Jayme Prestes

Jayme started climbing in 1997. Since then, the mountains have become his second home and he’s traveled all over Brazil to climb. Jayme is specialized in Search and Rescue in the mountains, is an Amateur Guide for a local Climbing Club, is a professional guide with Aribira and an AGUIPERJ (the local guides association) certified instructor. When Jayme is not in the mountains he’s either with his 2 kids or working for a Logistics company. Jayme speaks English and Spanish.

Pedro Aragão

Pedro started to climb in 1999 and since then has climbed in many different places in Brazil, such as Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. He has a B.A degree in Geography with a minor in Geomorphology from the State of Rio University (UERJ). Pedro loves the freedom of the mountains and to protect and interpret local ecology and forests. He also has a self-rescue course and advanced first aid training. Pedro speaks English.

Clara Vieira

Clara was born and raised in Rio. She spends most of her time hiking and climbing, admiring all the great sceneries of this city. Clara loves sharing the passion for Rio with others. She has a Tourism degree and is specialized in guiding ecotourism tours as well as hiking adventures. Clara speaks English and Spanish.

Miguel Monteza

Miguel has been climbing since 1995 and has a lot of experience climbing throughout Brazil. He has first ascended numerous routes in Rio and Espírito Santo state. His speciality is friction routes. He has a Business Administration degree, and the following courses regarding the outdoors: self-rescue, advanced first-aid. He's currently attending the Guiding school from the Carioca Mountain Club (CEC). Miguel speaks English and Spanish.

Maurício Votre

Mauricio is an enthusiast for the outdoors. He loves hiking, climbing, biking and surfing. He has profound knowledge of the local fauna, flora and history. In 1988 he started to surf. Nowadays, he shapes surf boards and teaches surfing. In 1998, he decided to experience “the other side” of Rio: the mountain; he started to climb. Mauricio has first-aid and self-rescue courses. He speaks English.

 

Yuri Berezovoy

Yuri has been climbing since 2000, hiking and backpacking since 1992, and mountain biking since 1987. Yuri has a passion for the mountains and loves sharing that with our clients. Yuri is also our technology consultant.
