BASIC COURSE

This course is a program of one classroom and 08 field instruction designed to equip students with the fundamental skills and experience to safely climb (follow) most rock routes.

The course covers the fundamentals of safely climbing (following) multi-pitch routes, concentrating on climbing skills as knot tying, belay skills, rope handling, rappel, and safety techniques that will give them a solid and safe foundation on rock-climbing.

The course is demanding, the rewards are great. At the end of the course, we give you a choice for your final technical climb:

Climb the Sugar Loaf x Climb Corcovado (up to the Statue of Christ).

 
PRE-REQUISISTES
No previous experience on rock climbing is required.

Duration: 01 classroom class
08 field instructions
No. of Hours: 27 hrs.
Location of Classes: Mostly in Urca. We will climb at least 3 different mountains in Rio, which might include Sugar Loaf.
Equipments Supplied: All climbing gear and shoes.
Classes: held any day of the week, weather permitting.
 
COURSE CURRICULUM
Extensive safety instructions. Following a lead climb.
Multi-pitch climbing.

Climbing Equipment.

Knots. Belaying.
Rappelling. Climbing styles.
Climbing techniques. Fixed line ascension.
Theoretical topics: grading systems, ethics, history of climbing, etc.
 
 
TRANSPORTATION
The course fee includes transportation to and from your hotel in Zona Sul of Rio to Urca. A surcharge fee and special arrangements need to be arranged for clients staying in Santa Teresa or Barra da Tijuca.
