AID CLIMBING

This course is designed to introduce the climber to the technical skills needed on an aid climb as well as the use of a variety of gear that include pitons, copperheads, nuts, ascenders, pulleys, aiders etc.

Participants will practice techniques required for modern aid climbing, including placing gear, cleaning, jugging, traverses, pendulums, hauling, hammering pitons and heads and swinging leads.
Focus will be on clean aid.

 
PRE-REQUISISTES

Leading experience is required.
An assessment of your past experience with Aribira is required.
Aribira past students are welcomed to joining this course.

 
COURSE DETAILS
Class Size: Minimum : 01
Maximum : 04
Duration: 04 field classes
No. of Hours: 12 hrs.
Location of Classes: Mountains in Rio, with at least 3 different aid crags.
Equipments Supplied: All climbing gear.
Equipments Required:
Students must bring their own Shoes (can be rented from Aribira) and Harness.
Classes: held any day of the week, weather permitting.
 
COURSE CURRICULUM
Extensive safety instructions. Choosing a climb, planning and preparing.
Rope management

Psychological factors and energy conservation

Aid and Trad. Equipment Cleaning "hammered and clean" protection
Organizing Belays Gear Placement with and without a hammer
Dynamic and running belay Sound judgment and decision making
Fixed line ascension with a jumar

 

 
TRANSPORTATION

The course fee includes transportation to and from your hotel in Zona Sul of Rio to Urca.

A surcharge fee and special arrangements need to be arranged for clients staying in Santa Teresa or Barra da Tijuca.
